Tropos Motors Extends Range Of Its Low-Speed Electric Vehicles With New Lithium-Ion Packs
August 15th, 2018
Electric utility vehicle manufacturer Tropos Motors has rolled out a new lithium-ion battery pack for its vehicles that quadruples the range and delivers increased safety for customers.
The new 26kWh lithium-ion battery packs are a part of the new ABLE XR upgrade which offers an extended range of up to 160 miles (257 kilometers) per charge. The range boost allows the ABLE XR to more than triple the range possible by its nearest competitor in the electric compact utility vehicle market, further establishing Tropos Motors as the leader in long range, low-speed electric vehicles.
The longer range of the new XR makes it an option for even more use cases and gives customers the peace of mind that the street legal vehicle will be able to keep going even when the day’s work is done. In addition to more capacity for driving, the increased battery capacity in the XR allows for a host of value-add features that customers have been asking for.
Tropos Motors CEO John Bautista spoke to this, noting that, “Our customers are looking for eCUVs that can travel farther at higher speeds or farther with heavy payloads. The extra energy provided by the new lithium batteries makes this possible, as well as power for auxiliary features such as air conditioning, cooking equipment and medical devices.”
Enabling these additional functions can drastically extend the use cases for low speed electric vehicles that find their place on corporate campuses, industrial factories and dense urban centers as maintenance vehicles, emergency response vehicles, guest movers, street sweepers and more.
The new battery pack enables a higher top speed of 45 mph (72 km/h) along with an impressive towing capacity of 2,000 pounds (900 kilograms) on public roads or 3,000 pounds (1,360 kilograms) on closed campuses.
The ABLE series has also increased its Driver Safety Benchmark with an array of safety features not found on any other electric compact utility vehicle including hill-hold, a load sensing brake proportioning system, reinforced doors and a driver’s side airbag. These safety features make it clear that Tropos Motors is not building just another low speed electric vehicle, but has actually built a slimmed down version of the pickup truck, but with an array of full-sized features.
“At Tropos, driver safety is our top priority,” continued Bautista. “From airbags, to reinforced doors and enhanced bumpers, the ABLE XR offers more safety features than any other eCUV on the market today.”
This focus has been the foundation of the Tropos ABLE line of vehicles from the start, with their flexible design that allows for a single vehicle to utilize a handful of different bed packages that can be swapped onto the vehicle as needed with Tropos’ Easy-Swap functionality.
Tropos Motors will be at Electrification ‘18 in Long Beach next week, from August 20–23, 2018 with some of its low speed electric utility vehicles, including the ABLE Trades bed package.
